Week 5 | Strategies for Supporting an Argument (Discussion)

Help me study for my English class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.

Since Text 1, the written genre, is persuasive, you are going to be making an argument. For this discussion, you should first read Chapter 16 “Strategies for Supporting an Argument” on pages 339-361 in our textbook. This chapter outlines different strategies that writers can use to make effective arguments. For this discussion post, choose at least 3 of these strategies that you think might be useful in writing for this project. Then, post a reply to this discussion board that addresses the following:

1. Who is your audience and what is the particular stance you are taking in your persuasive text?
2. For each of the 3 strategies, answer the following questions:
   • What is the strategy that you might incorporate?
   • In 2-3 sentences, how do you understand what this strategy includes?
   • Why do you think this particular strategy might be persuasive for your specific audience and/or stance?

After you’ve posted your response, you should read over other students’ posts and comment on 2 other posts. You should comment on what your peer wrote for part 2 of their post, making comments and/or asking questions that can help your peer consider which strategies may be persuasive for their extended written genre. Each peer response should be at least 100 words.

Remember that if you do not comment on two classmates’ posts, you have not completed the assignment. Since both your initial post and peer responses have the same due date, this means that if you are one of the first people to post to the discussion board, you will need to return to it to post your peer responses.
